What will I learn?

The Level 3 Diploma in Games Development is split into 7 units, which will be completed over 2 years. Each unit is assessed through a portfolio of evidence built across the duration of your course.

Project Management (Games Technologies)

Discover the structure that takes games technology projects from conception through to publishing. In this unit, you will understand the project management methodologies that drive the development of any digital game, and get to grips with the processes and tools behind this.

3D Game Models

Lara Croft. Master Chief. Spyro the Dragon. They all started somewhere. In this unit, you will develop and practise the skills to create 3D character and vehicle models, and work with tools and software used across the gaming industry.

Concept Art & Digital: Graphics for Games

Unleash your artistic side and become a master of gaming graphics. In this unit, you will get hands-on with both the physical and digital drawing tools used to create the concept art and digital graphics in games across the globe.

  • Develop the drawing techniques and styles needed to produce effective concept art

  • Learn how to digitise concept art into gaming graphics and refine these over time

  • Understand the types of digital graphic file formats and their different characteristics

Games Engines

Unreal. Unity. Godot. In this unit, you will learn all about the games engines behind the present and future of video gaming, and harness 2D and 3D engines to develop your own worlds.

  • Create prototype 2D and 3D games using our in-house games engines

  • Learn about AI animation, collision detection, game mechanics and much more

Mobile Games Development

From Candy Crush and Clash of Clans to Pokemon Go – mobile games are some of the most popular and actively played on the planet. In this unit, you will explore these platforms and gain the skills to design and develop your own apps.

  • Fully understand mobile technologies, platforms and interfaces and how they are used in the gaming industry

  • Design 2D mobile games using industry-standard techniques and tools

  • Develop, test and refine your own 2D mobile game

The Games Industry

Before you step into the gaming industry, it’s important you know how it operates. In this unit, you will understand the inner workings of this growing sector, from job roles and technologies to contractual, legal and ethical obligations.

  • Build a strong understanding of the games industry, covering organisational structures, genres, job roles and more

  • Analyse emerging technologies such as VR & AR, and trends that will define the future of gaming

Virtual & Augmented Reality

VR and AR technology is developing at a rapid rate in the gaming sphere. In this unit, you will learn all about these burgeoning techniques and use them to produce these immersive games.
